Airtasker’s handyman cost guide (last updated 17 June 2026) puts a typical handyman job in Adelaide at $190 to $250. Across Australia it lists completed handyman jobs from $80 to $1,200, with a median of $280. Hourly rates and call-out charges vary from one handyman to the next, so the most useful number is a quote for your actual list of jobs. SA Elite doesn’t publish an hourly rate: Lindsay quotes each job individually and the quote is free.
Published prices for common handyman jobs
These are Airtasker’s published Australian ranges (June 2026), not SA Elite prices:

Hourly rate or a quote for the job?
Handymen generally price work one of two ways.
- By the hour. You pay for the time on site, often with a minimum charge or a call-out fee. It suits open-ended work where nobody can say how long it will take, such as a list of small fixes that keeps growing.
- A quote for the job. You know the price before the work starts. It suits jobs that can be described clearly: patch and paint two walls, mount a TV, clean the gutters, clear the back yard.
Whichever way a handyman works, ask what is included: materials, taking rubbish away, travel and making good afterwards. Two quotes only compare properly when they cover the same things.
What pushes the price up or down
- The size of the list. Five small jobs in one visit usually cost less than five separate visits.
- Materials. Paint, plaster, flyscreen mesh, door hardware and TV brackets all add to the bill.
- Height and access. High walls, two-storey gutters and tight spaces take longer.
- Finish. Patching a hole is quick. Making it disappear into the wall with a sanded, painted finish takes more time.
- Licensed parts of the job. If a job needs an electrician or a plumber for part of it, that part is a separate cost. Our guide to what a handyman can and can’t do in SA explains where the line is.
Getting more value from one visit
Write the whole list before you call: the sticking door, the loose handle, the torn flyscreen, the picture that never went up. On the quote form you can tick every job and add photos, and Lindsay quotes the list together. Landlords and property managers can send a list of between-tenancy repairs the same way.
For bigger work, get it in writing. In SA, domestic building work under $20,000 is classed as minor domestic building work (from 10 November 2025) and doesn’t legally need a written contract, but the Law Handbook still recommends one.
Questions to ask before you book
- Is the price a quote for the whole job, or an hourly rate with a minimum charge?
- Are materials included, or charged on top?
- Will the rubbish and offcuts be taken away?
- Does any part of the job need a licensed electrician, plumber or gas fitter?
- If something extra turns up once the work starts, how will that be priced?
Clear answers to those five questions make two quotes easy to compare, and they stop surprises on the invoice.
Prices in the northern suburbs, Gawler and the Barossa
The published guides are city averages. Travel can make a difference for homes further out, so ask about it when you get a quote. Lindsay works from Gawler and the Riverland, and covers the northern suburbs and the Barossa, and a seniors discount is available. Every quote is free: call 0481 195 152 or send your list.
